Someone please explain to me how to create reading filters on Dreamwidth? I tried to read tutorials but I didn't really get them. It is possible, right? RIGHT? D:
Yes, it's totally possible. (And if you've got a paid account you can even create reading filters based on which tags people are using.) They still use the same clunky interface as LJ though. (Hopefully someone will have the time to fix it soon.) Have you looked at this page?
The first thing you'll need to do is create the filter(s). Go do the manage subscription filter page, and then click "New". It'll ask you to name the new filter. So name the filter, and create however many filters you'd like to have.
Then, from the dropdown box on the same page*, select the filter name. This will give you two lists: "Not in filter" and "In filter". You can move people back and forth until the filter is what you'd like it to be. Make sure to save it, and then repeat with all of your filters until you have them tweaked to your satisfaction.
*By default, it looks like Filter: (select filter)
Then, you can choose your reading filter in one of two ways.
1. You can go to the page Filter Reading Page and click on the filter you'd like to use.
2. You can go to your Reading [Friends] Page and look at the navbar on top. The middle section looks something like You're viewing your Reading Page Manage Circle Filter [dropdown menu] View The default option on the dropdown menu is all subscriptions, but you can select a particular filter once you've created your filters.
Does that make sense? If it doesn't, let me know. I tried using the same phrasing as all of the pages, but I know that sometimes it's a little odd unless you're actually looking at the pages in question!
